Provincial Ombudsman to Investigate EFI decision
By host @ 8:24 AM :: 70 Views :: 4 Comments ::

In a move heralded by the supporters of EFI in New Brunswick the Provincial Ombudsman today announced that he would investigate the government decision to eliminate EFI in the fall of this year.  Further, he said that he had a serious concern that the move, which has been heavily criticized by parents and education experts alike, could have serious and unknown effects on the education outcomes in New Brunswick and could damage English/French relations.

About time the government sat up and took notice of the parents. There is a need to put the EFI program back in the system, at least until a proper investigation has taken place. Right now schools are calculating their staffing needs for the next school year. How can that be done effectivly, when some rural schools can expect their numbers to change considerably if the EFI program is dropped.

Also I feel that the parents are not fully aware of the implications of Intensive French~there are no extra resources for those filled to capacity classrooms. Methods and Rescoures teachers will be overstretched trying to accomodate all the extra needs of teachers who are trying to implement a new teaching method; there are little or no T.A's who can assist students effectivly in French. If you are one of the parents who think the Intensive French is just for Grade 5, well it's not. Your child will go from Core French to having all French instruction for half the school year, every year, till Grade 12. MANDATORY.
Not optional.
Leave the system as it is, it works everywhere else. It works here in N.B. too.

Looks like we are getting somewhere and how exciting to be a part of it.

Shawn Graham and his liberals have decided to not follow the Ombudsman's recommendation to delay implementation.

This is a disgrace - please continue to contact your MLAs, Liberal Associations, and the Premier himself.

My main concern with this issue has been the elimination of EFI because I have a Kindergartner who I have registered in EFI for Sept. However I am realizing this is more far reaching in its implications for all students. I believe your saying students will have five months of Intensive French every year from Grade 5 to 12 - that was not actually my understanding so I'm hoping someone can clarify for me. This is another of my big complaints - Lamrock should be telling us exactly how this new program will run - I want specifics not generalities.
